Abs

Dreaming of a six pack? Then it's your abs that you need to be working on. Abs refers to the body's abdominal muscles. These are the muscles that help support breathing and your spine as well as keeping your stomach and intestines in place.

When your abs become loose and weak, you're more likely to have a beer belly hanging over your jeans.

While not everyone can or wants to achieve the six pack look, exercising your abs can greatly help with the overall toning of your body. There are many different types of exercises that help to build up these muscles.

Specific exercises look at building particular muscles whether upper, lower, or oblique. The key here is repetition and a regular routine. You won't turn into Adonis overnight but slow and steady wins the race.

A small amount of regular exercise can make a huge difference over time. It's important to start off with exercises that are suitable to your level of fitness and slowly build up to more strenuous ones. If you over do it to begin with, you'll only end up in pain that will be uncomfortable and discouraging. Some basic exercises involve hip rolling and bridging which are not difficult but build up strength when muscles may not have been used for some time. Exercise balls are often used for sit ups and more complicated rolling exercises.

There are literally hundreds of exercises you could consider trying. What's important to bear in mind is building up a routine that is suited to you. You'll want to stretch yourself and be continually improving without pushing yourself too hard too fast.
