Aqua Aerobics

The idea behind aqua aerobics is giving your body a work out while you're in the water. Not only is this relaxing and fun, the main advantage of aqua aerobics is that the water creates a natural resistance that helps to tone your body all over.

As you push against the weight of the water, you are building up muscle strength without the danger of tearing and pulling associated with more violent forms of exercise.

Aqua aerobics have grown enormously in popularity. A large part of the reason being that they offer an alternative to the heavy perspiring and gasping for breath of jumping up and down in a gym. As this form of exercise takes place in water, it is naturally cooler and less jarring on your muscles.

Thus you can build strength and endurance with less risk of putting unnecessary strain on your heart and lungs. The other advantage is that classes often take place in swimming pools and are generally relaxing opportunities to socialise.

Generally speaking you will be asked to stand waist deep in water. An instructor will talk you through a series of exercises designed to tone certain muscle groups as well as improve your overall breathing and posture. One of the main benefits of this kind of exercise if undertaken on a regular basis is that it builds up the muscles of your heart and improves blood circulation. This in turn increases the flow of oxygen around your body making you feel more energised and lowering the risk of heart failure.
