Cardio Dance

You don't have to be a disco queen or hard core clubber to get into cardio dance. Essentially it's just a way of combining aerobics with a few disco moves.

The idea behind cardio dance is to give your body a full workout in a way that is both fun and challenging. There are beginner classes for those just starting out and you can slowly work your way up to intermediate and advanced.

Most cardio dance is based on a few simple steps. These can be learned in the social atmosphere of a class. Or if you're feeling a bit less confident, you might want to consider starting off with a video at home. This has the advantage of letting you pause and rewind till you've managed to get the steps just right.

However classes are generally fun and a good way to meet people. As well as helping to burn calories and tone muscle, this kind of exercise improves balance and coordination. You don't have to have a highly developed sense of rhythm. Just an ability to count and an openness to having a good time whilst getting fit.

The use of music and the sense of energy and camaraderie help to keep things interesting and to take your mind off any pain or discomfort. Exercise doesn't have to be a form of physical torture that you undertake with a sense of dread because you feel guilty about being lazy. Instead it can be hugely positive and enjoyable. You can boost your energy levels, increase your stamina, and get fit while having as much fun as you would on a night out at a club.
