Fitness Classes

Long derided as for women only, fitness classes are growing in popularity once more. The resurgence is down to a greater understanding of human physiology, and the sheer variety of fitness classes now offered - truly something for everyone!

A quick look at the listing of any good health club will demonstrate just how many different types of fitness classes are available. Typical offerings include:

  • Hi and low impact Aerobics
  • Circuit training
  • Spinning
  • Cardio Kick
  • Body Pump and supple strength
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Tai Chi
  • Older adults/50+
  • Teen workouts
  • Step
  • Aqua
  • Relaxation
  • Stretch
  • Step
  • Boxercise
  • Exercise ball workouts
What all these have in common is that they try and combine the three main areas of physical conditioning - cardio, strength, and flexibility. Whereas in the past many teachers focused on just one area - typically aerobic, or cardio training - the improved training and certification of instructors means that those designing programmes now incorporate much greater variety into each individual session.

This greater understanding and variety means that you'll get a better workout, with less chance of injury. It also means you're likely to have a more enjoyable time. So if you like group activities, enjoy the motivation of having others around you when you workout, then check the listings at your local health club. There's bound to be something there that will not only be great fun, but will also get you in shape.
