Walking
The activity of walking is extremely good for you though it's something we tend to do less of with the hectic pace of modern living. Regular brisk walking can increase your fitness levels without any of the intensity and pain of more hard core forms of exercise.
Walking is a whole lot cheaper. Walking doesn't require any fancy equipment or joining an expensive gym. It can be done anywhere at any time.
Benefits include a general toning of your muscles as well as burning of calories. Obviously the faster you go, the more calories you will burn but it's easy to start off with short promenades and work yourself up to full hikes. As a nonaggressive, easily adjustable form of exercise, it's suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It's also good for your heart and helps improve blood circulation. Thus lowering your blood pressure and the risk of heart attacks or strokes. The most important thing is to keep it regular.
Take opportunities such as your journey to work. Don't always jump into your car or hop on the bus. Consider if you can get even part of the way there under your own foot power. Go to the park for a romantic stroll or a fun afternoon out for all the family. Specially organised groups are an excellent way of socialising and a fun way to appreciate nature. This may be a gentle form of exercise but it's a very good way of relaxing and keeping yourself in shape.
