Rowing exercise

Adding rowing exercise to your workout program is a great way to get in shape fast. This low-impact machine is joint-friendly and easy to use for everyone from teenagers through to the elderly.

Rowing exercise machines are now found in most gyms, and make either a great cardio workout or an excellent way to warm-up before a session of weights. Because they work both upper and lower body they get your whole body ready for whatever comes next.

Rowing exercise works muscles throughout the body, including:
  • Legs
  • Low back
  • Abdominals
  • Upper back
  • Shoulders
  • Arms
Although a little tricky to master at first, with a little co-ordination and some practice you'll soon have that smooth sculling action down pat. It's well worth the effort - an intense session burns calories at a rate of up to 800 per hour, making this a great way to burn off excess body fat.

Getting started is easy, though it's worth having a trainer talk you through it first time. Injuries are rare on this apparatus, the most common ones being strain on the knees and lower back from poor technique.

For an excellent all around workout that will build power from your legs through your core to your upper body, this is an activity well worth considering.
