Functional fitness training

How to define functional fitness training? How about the most useful twist to your workouts in many a year!

A new twist on sports specific workouts, functional fitness training works on the principle that life would be a little easier if your workouts actually worked on the areas of your life that you find most difficult.

So how does that work in practice? Let's say you spend a lot of your working day on your feet or walking around. Functional fitness training would include workouts designed to make your legs stronger, and build up your endurance. If it's done properly, you should find getting through a day on your feet a whole lot easier.

Alternatively, for someone whose job involved repeated lifting and twisting exercises, a program would be designed that focused on building strength through the legs and low back - this would not only make the person's job easier, it would also protect them against possible injury from the repetitive nature of their work.

Designing workouts such as this is best left to a professional - if you struggle with certain physical aspects of your daily routine, speak to a trainer. Working with you they will come up with a workout plan that builds strength where you really need it, making your daily routine just a little but easier!
