Golf flexibility
More and more players are realising that golf flexibility has a host of benefits for their game. However, with few trainers qualified or experienced in working in this area, it can sometimes be hard to figure out exactly what exercises you should be doing to improve your game.
There are three elements of fitness you should be focusing on if you want to improve your game, each of which can be performed at home, with a minimum of golf equipment needed. The three areas are golf flexibility, strength, and endurance.
To improve golf flexibility, you must stretch on a regular basis, focusing on the shoulders, low back and legs. Keeping these areas supple can improve your game, reduce the risk of injuries, and alleviate the symptoms of minor injuries, particularly to the low back.
One good way of achieving this is to join a yoga or Pilates class - you'll not only get a great workout, you'll also be doing wonders for your game. Alternatively you can refer to a stretching book - there are several good ones on the market.
Strength training is also important - developing increased functional strength can dramatically improve your performance. And finally cardiovascular training, or aerobic workouts, will help in two ways. Firstly, it's likely to reduce your weight, and secondly, because you'll get around the course easier and be less tired, your game will improve, particularly towards the end of a round when many people become fatigued.
