Yoga exercise

Want your workout to relax you? Yoga exercise is one of the very best ways of combining the benefits of a good workout with the relaxation you need at the end of a hard day.

Yoga exercise originated in India over 6,000 years ago, and encompasses mind, body, and spirit in one powerful, yet relaxing workout. Yoga exercise is the form that has become popular in the west for its ability to improve physical health while increasing mental peace and harmony.

There are numerous different classes offered, in a range of different styles. The form most commonly practised in the West is Hatha, which includes Asanas (movements and postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation. This is a balanced approach to physical and mental health, happiness and tranquillity, spiritual enough to have great benefits, but understandable to Westerners at the same time.

If you have not tried this activity before, there are various ways of getting started, including classes, DVDs, videos and books. For absolute beginners, a class with a qualified teacher is probably the best place to start, allowing you to learn good technique - very important if you are to make good progress and avoid injury.

Whatever your age you can enjoy and benefit from this activity - indeed, many elderly people enjoy it for its ability to fight the effects of aging.
