Shoulder rehab exercise

One of the reasons that shoulder rehab exercises are so important is the fragility of this joint. Because it has the greatest range of motion of any joint in the body, it is prone to injury.

Physiotherapists use shoulder rehab exercises to get this joint healthy again after an injury. We rely on this area to be healthy for all manner of daily activities - in fact anything that requires us to put our hands where they need to be, whether it's for work or play.

Shoulder rehab exercises are designed to restore the appropriate balance of strength, flexibility, and stability to the area. It is this combination of stretching and strengthening that keeps us pain and injury-free.

Some sports and activities are more likely to lead to problems - for example those that involve overhead movements such as baseball, swimming, or tennis - although almost any contact sport can lead to problems from impact and landing on hard ground.

Restoring strength to this area involves working the four muscles (and their tendons) that surround this area. Collectively these are known as the rotator cuff. The rotator cuff is susceptible to many problems which can cause weakness, tenderness and pain, in particular overuse injuries such as tendonitis.

A properly designed program will include movements such as external and internal rotation, abduction, extension, all designed to strengthen the rotator cuff and restore full functioning.
