Tennis elbow rehab

Many people think that tennis elbow rehab is only for those who have suffered an injury playing that particular sport. But the truth is that despite the name, this condition is the same however you have injured yourself.

Thus tennis elbow rehab is suitable for anyone who has suffered an injury to the muscles and tendons on the outside of the elbow. This is typically caused by overuse or repetitive stress and has a variety of causes including:

  • Golf
  • Baseball
  • Swimming
  • Rock climbing

It can also come from work related tasks such as hammering, screw driver use, even excessive computer work. Whatever the cause, tennis elbow rehab is the only way to fully recover from an injury such as this.

If you're not sure whether or not you have this complaint, the main symptoms are:

  • Problems holding, pinching, or gripping objects
  • Pain and stiffness in the joint
  • Muscle tightness in the forearm
  • Pain in the muscles or tendons on the outside of the joint

The initial phase of treatment involves stopping whatever activity cause the pain, then following a regime of Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation (RICE) until the initial sharp (chronic) pain and swelling have subsided.

Once the initial pain has been dealt with, you can begin a program to improve flexibility, increase strength and endurance, and increase functional use.
