Chest muscle

Building chest muscle is one of the easiest things to do - if you know how. Like anything else, there's a right way and a wrong way, and the truth is that many people don't know how to do it effectively.

There are actually two chest muscles, the pectoralis major and the pectoralis minor, but the same exercises work both.people don't know how to do it effectively.

There are a number of mistakes that many people make when exercising their chest muscles, most of which stem from one simple fact - you can use more weight on bench press than any other upper body exercise. As a result many guys go overboard. Common mistakes include:
  • Concentrating too much on flat bench press

  • Using too much weight

  • Using poor technique

  • Lowering the weight too far or too fast
To work this area effectively, you should pay heed to the following;
  • Utilise a variety of exercises - flat, incline and decline bench, barbell and dumbbell, cable machines. This will build the whole area, including the upper pecs

  • Concentrate on intensity, not weight. Injuries from benching too much are the number one weight lifting injury.

  • Lower the weight slowly, stopping just before the bar touches your body. Pause, then power upwards.
Training smart, rather than just heavy, will maximise your development and reduce your risk of injury.
