Rock climbing
A sport for those with a sense of adventure, rock climbing is both exhilarating and fun. With a proper instructor and equipment, rock climbing is also quite safe.
Admittedly a sport that involves scaling cliff faces is never going to be completely without danger. However if you're sensible and start of at a level suitable for your ability, you'll find that rock climbing is a fascinating way to get fit as well as discovering nature.
What attracts most fans is the challenge of scaling a cliff. This requires considerable strength, both mentally and physically. You will need to be aware of how your feet, legs, arms and hands can be used to grasp the cliff surface. Special ropes, harnesses and other safety equipment are absolutely essential. It's an excellent way to give your body a complete workout and stretch your muscles. It also helps to develop concentration and balance.
The sense of achievement that comes from overcoming fear and succeeding in reaching your goal is considerable. It's a sport that is quite intense and you will need to be in fairly good physical shape.
There's often a great sense of camaraderie with other participants who will encourage you as you struggle to overcome the challenge set by nature. A good instructor will also help you to push yourself but not to take any unnecessary risks or go beyond your current ability. A sport that has become hugely popular with young and old, it can be extreme but not unduly risky.
