Football
American football, known in the US as just football, is a contact team sport. It requires a high level of fitness as well as strength and agility. A hugely popular sport, football is as much about speed as it is about bulk.
The rules of football are relatively straightforward. Eleven players on two opposing teams battle it out on a pitch one hundred and twenty yards long. Points are scored by carrying the ball into the end zone of the other team.
You can score by either kicking the ball over the line, carrying it over, or throwing it to a player on your team who is over the line. If you succeed in carrying the ball over your opponents' goal line, this is worth six points and is known as a touch down. If you get a touch down, you then win the chance to get an extra point by successfully kicking the ball over the goal crossbar. Opponents can tackle you to win control of the ball or catch it when it is thrown.
Whoever has the most points when time's up, wins the game. A sport that is highly skilled, it also helps if you have a larger build and are able to move with considerably agility. It's a great way to workout all the muscles in your body and helps to strengthen the heart and lungs. Although there is some risk of injury, with the correct protective gear and a good coach to train you this should be minimised.
