Strength Training
Which exercises should I perform?
You should always perform
exercises appropriate to your experience. Getfit will automatically
determine these through the answers to your fitness profile. Whether
you are on a weight loss or muscle building program.
How many sets
and repetitions should I do?
Again this is dependant upon your experience and your fitness
goals. Getfit will automatically determine the correct sets and
repetitions for you.
What weight/resistance should I use?
The weight you select should allow you to almost
perform the full number of repetitions through the full range of
motion. You should achieve overload (or momentary muscle failure)
as you approach the last repetition.
Getfit will automatically progress the resistance as you meet your
resistance goals.
It is very important that the resistance is increased over time
in order for your strength training to have an effect.
Why has Getfit
given me strength training workouts when I want to lose weight?
Strength training is an important part of any weight loss
program not just muscle building. Strength training workouts raise the metabolism for an
extended period and the resting metabolic rate of muscle is far
higher than fat.
CAUTION: It is STRONGLY recommended that you
see a physician for a complete medical examination before undertaking
an exercise program. Particularly if you have a family history of
high blood pressure or heart disease, are over the age of 45, smoke,
have high cholesterol, are obese, or have not exercised regularly
in the past year. If at any time while exercising, you experience
faintness, dizziness, pain or shortness of breath you should stop
immediately.
